Depression is a common mental disorder affecting more than 264 million people worldwide.

People can experience ongoing, long term depression or have shorter episodes at certain times in their life. It can turn a person’s world upside down with persistent sadness and denies pleasure or incentive to do anything, even if the activity is rewarding. It can make it hard to cope with the simplest activities of everyday life. Depression can isolate you, make you feel like you’re down a big black hole, feel all alone and interfere with your work, social life and family.
Symptons can include;
- Having continuous low mood and feeling sad most of the time
- Having low self-worth and little self esteem
- Being tearful, anxious or worried and not enjoying things in life
- Not being able to sleep, finding it difficult to get to sleep and waking up often
- Having suicidal thoughts or thinking the world would be a better place without you
- No Energy - speaking and moving slower than usual or unexplained pains
- Changes in appetite, menstrual cycle or low sex drive
These are some symptoms of depression. You are unlikely to experience them all. If you experience any of these symptoms for most of the day, for over two weeks-you should book an emergency appointment with your doctor, who can sign post you to help and support.
Depression can come on gradually. It may start by distancing yourself from people, avoiding even your best friends. Shying away from fun social events can be a sign. You could also notice that you are neglecting to do things that you enjoy i.e. hobbies and interests and generally feel despondent and unhappy.
GETTING SUPPORT: We are very lucky in this country as there is a vast array of Apps, websites, charities and organisations that support our mental health and wellbeing, (very often free of charge).

We will match you to the right practitioner or counsellor in the program that fits your needs. (you don’t need a referral from your GP - anyone can refer to us).
